Have you ever talked about a brand, asked questions or mad statement using a brand name? Well, if you live in the United States, Twitter has some great news for your! You may just be targeted with promoted ads. According to Twitter, “These tailored ads are based on information, such as browser-related information (a browser cookie ID), that our ad partners share with us.”
I bet you’re all just so excited at the prospects of having your stream loaded with targeted information that only gets in the way of the information that you have actually opted in for…your friends and interests content.
But Twitter, being the cool and awesome tool that it is, gives you some choice in your own privacy, unlike some other companies.
To opt out of receiving Promoted Content, just go to gears [1] click on your settings and click the box to remove the check mark [3].
Twitter reminds its users as well that they support Do Not Track provided you have DNT enabled in your browser of choice.
You can’t blame Twitter for taking Promoted Ads to the next level. After all, it’s a business and most businesses want to make money. It’s a win-win for us since the better they are, the better the experience is for us.
This also doesn’t mean an end to the standard Promoted Ads that we all have come to love at the top of our streams. Oh and just in case you think because you live in the UK, OZ, Canada or many other countries outside of the US that you won’t have this to look forward to…give it time.
